Nuclear power is one of the safest power sources per kilowatt hour of any other, including wind and solar. The danger and reputation come more into play with nuclear power than others because its has the most potential to cause serious disasters. A majority of the nuclear power plants in use today have been so for several decades without much change to their infrastructure. The push into nuclear has fallen by the wayside because of the reputation is receives following the handful of power plant meltdowns. Using modern infrastructure and technology to better utilize and build nuclear power plants would allow the facilities be even more safe and effective than those that are still in operation today.
